Camouflage

As we went farther and farther into At-Home learning, ideas began to dry up for meaningful physical education lessons. This is because at-Home learning has many constraints: limited spaces, materials, and attention. As a result, we must resort to lessons that may not be as "physical" but over-deliver on the fun component to keep the students engaged. Keeping the students engaged and happy for virtual instruction is as important as any physical or educational standard we are trying to accomplish. We can combine low-hanging fruit (fun games that keep the students engaged) with a concept from the classroom.

A popular game over Zoom has been a version of hide-and-go-seek. This game version combines this idea of hiding with how animals naturally hide with camouflage. This version is fun and gets the students thinking about animal survival and adaptions.

If you have a vast outdoor space with natural foliage that can be used for hiding, you can play an in-person version that is a lot of fun. It is a gift to access large outdoor spaces with a natural environment. Use this game as an excuse to get outside!

Materials:

·      A computer with a camera

·      A decently sized room that has plenty of options for hiding

·      Optional: different types of clothing which may help the student blend into their surroundings

·      A large play area with lots of natural features if playing outside

Minimum Number of Students Needed: This game can be played with as few as two students. However, it is best with an entire class.

Age: All Ages
