Electron Cloud Keep Away

$3.00

This lesson can be used as an introduction to quantum physics by explaining how we need to rethink the electron. The students typically use the Bohr model and the electron board material in class. This can be very helpful in understanding energy levels and how atoms bond. However, students can misinterpret the actual movement patterns of electrons and the false orbital shape of the energy levels in an atom. The students become accustomed to thinking of energy levels as concentric circles when we should think of them more like electron “clouds.” This impressionistic game features two simultaneous games of keep away, which can be effective at getting the students to see a more accurate representation of the movement patterns of electrons.
