Need a kinesthetic way to practice the days of the week? Try Timeline Foosball. Foosball is a relic for most students, who grew up with video games, cell phones, and social media. Most have never heard of foosball. For those who have a human-sized version, it might seem strange but exciting. Even if students don't know the game, they'll enjoy it as much as soccer. This lesson works for small to medium classes.

In contrast, bigger classes can play another version; both are fun. It also lets you teach whichever timeline your students are studying. Days, months, and seasons are just some options you can use. This game also works with basic numbers for younger students learning the number line. For advanced students, use positive and negative integers to play! To reinforce the timelines, teachers can implement a quick exit task. For example, at the end of the game, students could be asked to line up in the correct order of the timeline they practiced, without any prompts. This would provide a tangible assessment point to gauge their understanding and retention.

Materials:

• A soccer ball
• Cones, or rubber disc dots

o For outdoor games, use many cones or disc dots to mark the line where students are "stuck."

The minimum number of students needed: You need enough students to match the lesson's timeline. If you are studying days of the week, two teams of 7 players equals at least 14 students. If you are studying the seasons, you would have two teams of four, for a total of eight students. If you have more players than needed for the timeline, use version #2.

Prior Knowledge: Students should have prior knowledge of the timeline they will use for this game.
