From Juneteenth to 1968: Why the Black Power ...

The 1968 Olympic protest by Tommie Smith and John Carlos was a direct continuation of that exact struggle. By bringing this moment into your gym or onto your track, you aren't just teaching running technique or relay strategies; you are helping your students reckon with the deep realities, sacrifices, and courage that defined the Civil Rights Movement.

NYC and the "Power of Friendship"
  • The San Antonio Spurs: Someone would mention that the Spurs have the freakiest athlete of our time, that they had five first-round picks in the past three seasons (one of them being Wembanyama), and that they were the Western Conference juggernaut that couldn’t be beat.

  • The New York Knicks: Boasted "the power of friendship."

Rescuing Youth Sports in the U.S. Part 1: How ...

This history matters because the private travel-league industry in America essentially looked at the European club model, hijacked its structure, and ran it through a ruthless, hyper-capitalist filter. The club model has been reintroduced into America, but it has been perverted by capitalism into a new and nefarious form of elitism. Gone is the ethos of community and affordability, non-competitive youth development, and for the good of public health. Instead, they weaponized the American parents' deepest anxieties: the fear of their child falling behind, the obsession with "elite" status, and the multi-million-to-one lottery ticket of a college athletic scholarship.

How I’m Using AI—And How I’m Not

The heart of Montessori Physical Education has absolutely nothing to do with AI. It has everything to do with what makes us human. We love to play. We observe, and we learn.

Earthquake: A Free PE Game Students Will Love

I could have started the class with a lecture on architectural stability or "spoon-fed" them the answer by suggesting they build wide bases. But real learning happens in the gap between a plan and a collapse. I let the trial, error, and "epic failures" play out naturally.

Invent a Sport

At my school, we’ve also embraced something I wish more schools would adopt: an Inventors Fair we call Design for Good. Like the Science Fair, it is built on a process—this time, the Engineering Design Process.

"Does More Skill Equal Less Fun?" Revisited Six Years Later

It hit me like when my child’s teacher sees him after three months from summer break and says, “Wow, they’ve grown!” You knew they were growing, but you didn’t realize how much until someone else pointed it out. Those small incremental growth spurts go under the radar, just as the change in play occurred over the years.

Practicing Social Emotional Learning Through Team-Making

Ultimately, choosing teams is not just an SEL exercise for students—it’s also a test of restraint and observation for adults. As teachers, our instinct is to solve problems quickly. But Montessori reminds us: never do for the child what they can do for themselves.

The Cosmic Tower Lesson Plan Gets an Update!

When I first encountered this material, I was inspired to translate its central concept into movement. If the boxes shrink step by step, why not have the playing area shrink in a game to give students a physical, visceral experience of the same idea?

Why Athletic Directors and Coaches Must Be Storytellers

When we think about coaching or leading an athletic program, the first things that come to mind are usually practice plans, strategies, and skill development. But there’s something even more powerful that athletic directors and coaches need to embrace: storytelling.
